Servotronic
NOTE: As with all content on this site, please do not perform these modifications without the knowledge that any modification
made to a vehicle may have adverse impact. We are not responsible for damage as a result of this article.
Several late model Audi vehicles are equipped with Servotronic steering. This mechanism provides varying amounts of steering
assist depending on speed of the vehicle. Common complaints of Servotronic is the overassisted and numb feeling at low speeds
and the "lag" in the system when applying steering inputs while transitioning from high to low speed. Disabling
the Servotronic is easy to accomplish and remedies both of the above complaints. Unfortunately it also results in a much
lower assist steering particularly noticeable in low speed steering situations. It is not therefore a way to mimic the precision
of Audi cars that come equipped without Servotronic. As such, this modification may be useful for those participating in
track days.
1. Identify the Servotronic relay by removing the fuse panel cover and finding the relay, usually with "638" stamped
on the back of it or with other markings indicating "Servotronic" on it. See the below photo.

The fuse can be easily pulled by rocking it side to side while pulling it. It may be reinserted to reactivate Servotronic
at any time.
